Obama’s FDA could ban Newports & other menthol jacks

Although President Obama has publicly acknowledged he smokes jacks and Press Secretary Gibbs has said President Obama’s fallen “off the wagon“, the US Drug and Food Administration is considering a ban on menthol cigarettes. Whether it be Newports, Kools, or the never realized Uptowns, menthol cigarettes are predominantly the choice of black americans. A little more than 1/4 of all US smokers smoke menthols, but more than 3/4 of menthol smokers are black americans.

The Syndicate has fond memories of smoking Newports at Clyde’s on 7th St. NW before the cigarette ban. In the same spirit of former City Council member Carol Schwartz, who made an effort to ban alcohol from bars, we fear the day when the government makes Newports illegal. The slippery slope is real and in full effect as it increasingly goes vertical.

If the FDA does ban menthols all they will be doing is strengthening the already thriving underground economy for cigarettes. The government says weed and other drugs are illegal too, right? Last time The Syndicate walked the city streets we smelled evidence that smoking weed is a popular recreational activity.

On June 22, 2009 President Obama signed a law giving the FDA authority to regulate the tobacco industry. Change came and it will continue coming. Whether menthols are banned or not, the death stamp of skull & bones is coming to the pack in your pocket soon. Get ready for the change we voted for.

newports as well as all cigarettes need to be ban forever its destroying families and disabling people with mental disorders even more its not right to have to see your love one basically die a slow death they know their killing themselves and its like nobody cares we know alot will probably never change but this smoking of tobacco products really needs to stop maybe people would find better ways to deal with stress and other problems if they didn’t have tobacco products top lean on

My dad just passed away from lung and brain cancer, the cancer started in his lungs due to smoking.
The doctors were very surprised that he had ONLY smoked for about 15 years. they said usually it takes longer.
    guess what he smoked?!?! newports.
    he was only 40.
i think that all tobacco should be banned.
it is ridiculous of how many lives it has taken but yet no one wants to totally ban it.

People don’t understand things like this,if they ban cigarettes as they have marijuana, they will be putting thousands of people in jails and prisons, which would not only take up space where true criminals could be,like murderers, and theives, but it will also be using millions of our tax dollars, which we have no room to spend on that.We should be using our tax money for paying off the trillions of dollars worth of debt our country as a whole has mannaged to build up.Alcohol is just as bad,if not worse, then cigarettes, and yet its legal, because without the legality of it,we would be putting people in jail for bootleg alcohol, which would be ethanol, which is worse then alcohol.Prohibition didn’t work, and neither will banning cigarettes.People really need to become educated on things such as this before they jump to conclusions.

The only negative thing i have to say about weed is that if you smoke it a lot, it can damage part of your brain. But it is a lot better than cigarettes because they cause cancer.
